So, despite my ongoing Disneyland series, I knew I had to take a moment to commemorate the 30th birthday of my favorite theme park... EPCOT Center, which opened on October 1, 1982. Dash's mane colors just happened to match up with the colors of the emblems of the various pavilions, and also complimented the absurd "rainbow outfits" Mickey and others appeared wearing in-park.
The pavilion emblems appear on poles behind her and are modeled on those used at the park's dedication in 1982. From left to right, they are: The Land (Kraft Foods), Horizons (General Electric), Spaceship Earth (Bell System), EPCOT Center "tulip" logo, Universe of Energy (Exxon), Communicore, Journey Into Imagination (Kodak), and World of Motion (General Motors).
Journey into Imagination is the reason I started creating art when I was five, so this thing is important to me.
EPCOT Center was re-named Epcot '94, then finally Epcot, and nearly every one of these classic attractions is now closed. For all intents and purposes, EPCOT Center no longer exists. MLP gives me some of the joy and wonder I felt as a youth in that theme park, so the connection is appropriate. Also, you know, rainbows.
This is part one of the souvenir video being sold in the park on my first visit when I was five. You can also see the rainbow outfits: [link]
Happy anniversary, Memorium, EPCOT Center.
